Exponential modelling of heart rate recovery after a maximal exercise

چکیده
Objectives: Heart rate recovery (HRR) after exercise is clinically important as a predictor of mortality. In addition, HRR an indicator cardiac autonomic activity, since increased vagal activity and diminished sympathetic return the heart to resting conditions exercise. The previous attempts model using polynomial, first-order second-order modelling have produced mixed results. this study, we hypothesised that double-exponential fit would more accurately than single-exponential it capture both arms responsible for decay investigated outcome these two models on data following maximal Materials Methods: Exponential curve fitting was done set previously published from our laboratory. were acquired 40 male participants (19–38 years) treadmill normalised 5-min time window fitted single curves, obtain, respectively, constants Tau and, 1 2. goodness-of-fit assessed with Chi-square values computed each participant models. Considering zero perfect fit, therefore, smaller indicate better larger values, difference in (Δχ 2 ) between by subtracting value fit. This based premise if calculated Δχ positive, model. are presented mean ± standard deviation. Comparisons made Student’s t -test. Results: Data four excluded technical reasons. 65.50 12.13 s, while 43.75 18.96 s 120.30 91.32 being significantly lower ( P < 0.0001). Remarkably among 36 participants, positive (127.2 171.04) 22 subjects or marginally negative (−0.17 0.31) 14 subjects. Conclusion: Our results almost two-thirds (61%) study population. remaining nearly equivalent fits no evidence superior show sufficient subjects, less efficient most participants. comparison, effectively modelled 100% Given findings, conclude inclusive represented population

Recovery of gas exchange variables and heart rate after maximal exercise in COPD.
Studies of the limited exercise capacity in patients with COPD have not assessed the recovery phase, although the phenomenon of increased oxygen uptake after exercise has been thoroughly investigated in normal subjects. Therefore, we compared the recovery of gas exchange variables and HR after maximal cycle ergometry in 16 patients with varying severities of airflow obstruction and ten aged con...
متن کاملSocioeconomic position and heart rate recovery after maximal exercise in children.
OBJECTIVE To determine whether socioeconomic (SE) position is associated with first-minute (1-minute) heart rate (HR) recovery in healthy children and adolescents (hereafter referred to as children). DESIGN In a cross-sectional study, we compared 1-minute HR recovery in 3 groups of children (low, medium, and high SE) using multivariable analysis. The groups were based on neighborhood SE data ...
متن کاملHeart rate recovery after maximal exercise is blunted in hypertensive seniors.
Abnormal heart rate recovery (HRR) after maximal exercise may indicate autonomic dysfunction and is a predictor for cardiovascular mortality. HRR is attenuated with aging and in middle-age hypertensive patients, but it is unknown whether HRR is attenuated in older-age adults with hypertension. This study compared HRR among 16 unmedicated stage 1 hypertensive (HTN) participants [nine men/seven w...
متن کاملHeart rate recovery after maximal exercise is associated with acetylcholine receptor M2 (CHRM2) gene polymorphism.
The determinants of heart rate (HR) recovery after exercise are not well known, although attenuated HR recovery is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular mortality. Because acetylcholine receptor subtype M2 (CHRM2) plays a key role in the cardiac chronotropic response, we tested the hypothesis that, in healthy individuals, the CHRM2 gene polymorphisms might be associated with HR re...
متن کاملTest-retest reproducibility of heart rate recovery after treadmill exercise.
BACKGROUND Slowed heart rate recovery (HRR) of less than 12 beats per minute in the first minute after an exercise stress test has been suggested as a useful addition to the criteria currently used to assess exercise stress test results. Although HRR has been tested in large populations, the short-term test-retest stability (reproducibility) of abnormal HRR for an individual has not been assess...
